Instagram Frame vs Selfie Frame: What's the Difference?
Customers searching for this kind of product use several different terms almost interchangeably: Instagram frame, selfie frame, social media frame, photo booth frame. They're closely related, but the terms do carry slightly different emphasis. Here's how they break down, and which term PrintOnline's product falls under.
Instagram frame
"Instagram frame" usually refers to a frame styled to resemble Instagram's recognisable interface elements, a square photo window, the camera icon, the familiar colour gradient, or your own branded border styled in that general aesthetic. It's a popular choice specifically because guests immediately recognise the format and understand it's meant for a shareable photo.
Selfie frame
"Selfie frame" is a broader, less brand-specific term for a handheld photo prop that a guest holds up while taking their own photo. It doesn't necessarily reference Instagram's visual style at all, it's simply a frame-shaped prop designed for a selfie-style shot.
Social media frame
"Social media frame" is the broadest of these terms, covering any platform-themed or branded frame design, whether that's Instagram-styled, a generic branded border, or a design built around a different platform or campaign entirely. PrintOnline's Custom Social Media Frames product uses this broader term, since the actual design, whether Instagram-styled or not, is fully customisable to your event or brand.
Photo booth frame
A "photo booth frame" usually describes a frame used as part of, or in place of, a full photo booth setup. The key difference is scale and equipment: a full photo booth typically involves a dedicated camera setup, lighting, and sometimes an attendant, while a frame alone is a standalone prop that works with any phone camera, making it considerably simpler and lower-cost to deploy at an event.
