Company Stamp vs Embossing Seal: What Is the Difference and Which Should You Buy?
Both are called "company seal" in everyday UAE business language, which causes confusion at ordering time. A company stamp prints ink; an embossing seal presses a raised, ink-free impression into the paper. They serve different purposes, cost very different amounts, and most businesses need the stamp long before they need the embosser.
Company stamp (ink)
- What it does: prints your company name, Arabic and English, licence number, TRN, contact details and logo in blue or another ink colour.
- Where it is used: bank forms, cheques, tenancy contracts, government and free zone applications, quotations, invoices, delivery notes, letters. This is the stamp banks and PROs ask for.
- Visibility: shows clearly on scans, photocopies and photographs, which is why it is the accepted standard for documents that get emailed or uploaded to portals.
- Cost and speed: from AED 25 to AED 55 for a self-inking company stamp, AED 140 to AED 185 for branded models; 3 working days production or 1 day express.
- Requirement: a valid UAE trade licence copy. See company stamp requirements.
Embossing seal (raised, no ink)
- What it does: squeezes the paper between two metal dies to leave a raised design you can feel. There is no ink, colour or gradient.
- Where it is used: share certificates, board resolutions, notarised documents, diplomas, awards, legal opinions and premium stationery where a tactile mark of authenticity is wanted. Companies, law firms, schools, institutions and courts use them.
- Visibility: nearly invisible on scans and photocopies. That is the point (it proves an original), but it also means an embossed document still needs an ink stamp or signature for most day-to-day submissions.
- Cost and speed: from AED 275 for a block embossing seal with a 38 mm or 40 mm die in pocket or desk form, and from AED 300 for a heavy-duty embosser machine; standard production is 5 working days, with urgent 2 to 3 day options.
- Requirement: the relevant authority's documents and permissions must be available on request.
Which one do you need?
If you are a new Dubai or UAE company, buy the ink company stamp first; it is the one required for banking, licensing and daily paperwork. Add an embossing seal when you issue share certificates, notarised board resolutions or certificates and want a raised mark that cannot be photocopied. Larger firms usually own both, plus a rectangular address stamp and a TRN stamp for invoices.
