Engraving vs Printing on Crystal Awards
There are two families of decoration here, and they do different things. Engraving is done in-house, either surface etched or 3D laser inside the crystal. Printing is also offered, and on the blue and transparent award you pick both a technique and a finish.
The single most important difference: engraving cannot carry colour. If your logo must appear in its brand colours, the printed route is the only one that will do it.
The actual options
On the blue and transparent award the two choices are separate:
| Printing technique | What it is |
|---|---|
| Laser etching | The design is cut into the crystal. Single tone, permanent, no colour. |
| Transparent 4-colour sticker application | A printed transparent sticker applied to the crystal. Carries full colour. |
| Branding option | Finish |
|---|---|
| Frosting printing | A frosted, etched-looking finish |
| White printing | Solid white, high contrast against clear crystal |
| Clear printing | A subtler, transparent finish |
Options vary by model, so check them on the award you have chosen rather than assuming this set applies everywhere.
Surface etching
The design is cut into the outer face and appears frosted white against clear crystal. It suits logos, text and clean line art, and it is permanent in a way a surface finish is not. Check the proof for how fine details survive.
3D laser inside the crystal
Here the mark is made inside the crystal rather than on it, so the design appears to float within the block. It needs thickness to work, which is why it suits cubes and heavier pieces; the category lists 3D cube crystals as their own product type. Which models support it is not stated per product, so ask for the one you want.
Printing
Printing is available, and it is the answer to the colour problem. The transparent 4-colour sticker application reproduces artwork in full colour, which neither etching nor laser can do. The trade-off is that it sits on the surface rather than in the crystal, so it is the less permanent of the two.
Use printing when the logo depends on its colours or has photographic detail. Use engraving when you want the mark to be part of the object and a single frosted tone is acceptable.
Visual difference
Etched and laser marks are single tone, frosted or white, never coloured. A printed finish can be white, clear or frosted, and the 4-colour sticker route carries your actual brand colours. Decide which of those matters more before you pick a technique.
Artwork suitability
Good: bold logos, short names, clean lines, simple icons. Weak: photos, gradients, very fine text, thin outlines. See preparing artwork.
Colour requirements
For engraving, supply the logo as a one-colour vector with shading removed. For the colour sticker, supply your normal full-colour vector. Proofs are provided before cutting, so you see the result before anything is made.
Logo details
Remove thin strokes and tiny text; simplify before you send. Arabic text proofs are provided, and they are worth reading character by character rather than skimming.
Confirm material-specific limits
Different bases (marble, wood, metal) and crystal shapes accept branding differently, and bases give a second surface for the recipient's name. How wood or marble is marked is not stated per model, so ask on WhatsApp (+971 52 383 1019).
The caveat worth reading twice
PrintOnline states on the product page that engraving can produce small variations or light spots on the crystal surface. This is inherent to cutting crystal rather than a fault, but it is worth weighing if your design has large solid engraved areas, where a blemish is more visible than it would be in fine line work. If that is a concern, the printed finishes avoid it, because nothing is cut into the surface.
